Devil's Pocket Review

I have a really awesome book to share with you called Devil's Pocket, which is actually the 2nd book in a series written by John Dixon. The first book is called Phoenix Island and I will also tell you a little bit about that one also.
With a chip in his head and hundreds more throughout his body, sixteen-year-old Carl Freeman was turned from an orphan with impulse control issues into a super-soldier. Forced into the mercenary Phoenix Force group, he begins to fear he’ll never escape. Sent to a volcanic island to fight for them, he’ll compete in a combat tournament that awards teens with survival for merciless brutality. But just when all looks lost, he spies a friendly face…and possibly a way out.
My Thoughts:
Wow! This was a really interesting read for those of us who like YA Fantasy with a twist! It will make a lot more sense if you read Phoenix Island first but it still is a great book by itself if for some reason you can't get ahold of a copy of Phoenix Island. You won't lose the story of Devil's Pocket, but it will fill in some area's that help Devil's Pocket plot seem even more sinister.
This book is all about the end game of what was started in Phoenix Island and why the whole program was designed and what the actual maker's of the whole program what and need from all these guys fighting each other in Devil's Pocket.
It's very high tech stuff and it actually has some spy stuff included from another group of people wanting to put the people who made this whole scenario of fighter's coming together for this one big fight each year and the whole reason for it is really sinister and kind of sick.
I have a feeling there will be another book coming and I can't wait to read it!
Happy Reading!
The judge told Carl that one day he’d have to decide exactly what kind of person he would become. But on Phoenix Island, the choice will be made for him.

A champion boxer with a sharp hook and a short temper, sixteen-year-old Carl Freeman has been shuffled from foster home to foster home. He can’t seem to stay out of trouble—using his fists to defend weaker classmates from bullies. His latest incident sends his opponent to the emergency room, and now the court is sending Carl to the worst place on earth: Phoenix Island.

Classified as a “terminal facility,” it’s the end of the line for delinquents who have no home, no family, and no future. Located somewhere far off the coast of the United States—and immune to its laws—the island is a grueling Spartan-style boot camp run by sadistic drill sergeants who show no mercy to their young, orphan trainees. Sentenced to stay until his eighteenth birthday, Carl plans to play by the rules, so he makes friends with his wisecracking bunkmate, Ross, and a mysterious gray-eyed girl named Octavia. But he makes enemies, too, and after a few rough scrapes, he earns himself the nickname “Hollywood” as well as a string of punishments, including a brutal night in the “sweatbox.” But that’s nothing compared to what awaits him in the “Chop Shop”—a secret government lab where Carl is given something he never dreamed of.

A new life…A new body. A new brain. Gifts from the fatherly Old Man, who wants to transform Carl into something he’s not sure he wants to become. For this is no ordinary government project. Phoenix Island is ground zero for the future of combat intelligence.

And for Carl, it’s just the beginning…
My Thoughts:

This first book, Phoenix Island, will set up the next book, Devil's Pocket for you and will make Devil's Pocket even more sinister once you fully realize the whole reason why Phoenix Island and others like it really exist and what evil lurks behind the whole concept.

How John Dixon came up with this whole story is truly amazing because it's such a fanatical plan that it will boggle your mind, or at least it did mine! I really hope you get the chance to read both books as it really gives you an insight into how diabolical this group is in how they set up this whole thing with these kids.

Unbelievable is all I have to say!
