Newman's Own Organics Review

Newman's Own Organics has these dried fruits to choose from: Raisins, Cranberries, Pitted Prunes, Apples, Apricots and a Berry Blend. My two favorites were the Berry Blend and the Apples, which actually surprised me because I normally don't like apples very well. I will eat a chocolate fudge covered apple but to just eat one by itself, naw, not me. I would have thought that the Apricots would have been my favorite but they weren't. I have to tell you though, the Berry Blend was superb! And I actually ate the whole Apple bag all by myself, something you just don't see often. Not at the same time and not all in one sitting, but I did get it done by myself.

Here is what Nell says about Dried Fruit in general:
Dried fruits have gone beyond their traditional roles and are now replacing high-fat, high-sugar snacks and drinks. Prunes, once thought of only for the older set, are being touted for their high antioxidant qualities; second only to blueberries. Raisins, always a treat, have made the leap from the lunch box and oven to trail mix, granola, and other mixed snacks. Cranberries are not just for holiday sauce anymore. They add zip to fruit salads and stuffing, are tossed into mixed snacks, are baked into muffins, breads, and cookies, or, like the others, are perfect for eating alone. Apricots are a healthy, delicious treat right out of the package. Or, try adding them to yogurt, cereal, salad, or desserts.
I don't know if you have tried the other new thing at Newman's and that is the Sour Licorice. I don't care for regular licorice at all and never have and was a little concerned about the Sour Licorice as well, but when I opened the Sour Mango, it didn't taste like licorice at all! It was like a really sour chewy like candy that used to be made way back when I was a kid.
Not like gummies but somewhere in between that and licorice.  They have Sour Strawberry which was pretty good too, along with Sour Apple (which was Mike's favorite), Sour Black (still could not eat this one but my friend Lynette loved them so she got this one and the Pomegranate).  We all loved the Sour Cherry.

Newman's Own Organic's makes some really awesome pretzels in case you didn't know that. They have quite a list of different ones such as:
Spelt • Salted Sticks • High Protein • Unsalted Rounds • Rods Thin Sticks •Salted Rounds • Honey Wheat Mini Salted Thins • Mighty Mini
They were all delicious in their own way but my all time favorite was the Honey Wheat Mini's. I loved the delicate taste of Honey mixed in these awesome little mini pretzels, which are just the right size for me since I have to be careful of what I eat and how much these days.
I love that all of their pretzels are baked, not fried! Yes, that is why they taste so different and why they are the perfect low fat and healthy snack to have around when you get the munchies. They have only 1 to 1.5 gram fat (no trans-fat).
The Rounds come in Salted and Unsalted, and the Minis include Spelt, High Protein, Honey Wheat and the Mighty. Spelt has a light, slightly sweet, nutty flavor. With a stronger outer hull than either oats or wheat it seems to keep more of the nutty grain taste and good nutrients locked inside. By using yellow pea flour in their High Protein, they were able to create a pretzel with 5 grams of protein per serving.

Sticks are available in Salted, Thin and for those who have requested a thicker stick, Rods.
You will love all of the chocolates from Newman's Own Organics, especially the chocolate cups! I really enjoyed the Caramel and Mint the best while Mike stuck with his traditional peanut butter cups. All three flavors are rich in chocolate and flavor so it really doesn't matter which flavor you prefer, you still get the awesome chocolate flavor blended with the creamy fillings.
A little background on how they are made:
Inspired by our love of chocolate, we searched for a source of organic cocoa beans to make a rich, flavorful chocolate - and we found it! Our new Signature Series line of Chocolate Bars is formulated with some of the finest Certified Organic chocolate we've ever tasted, made from cocoa beans grown on Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms.
I got to review the  Milk Chocolate 34%, Dark Chocolate 54% and Super Dark Chocolate 70%. Now, of course, the Milk Chocolate was where Mike zoomed in on and left the Dark Chocolates to me. I like Dark Chocolate and can eat it in small quantities because it is very silky and rich, so I don't recommend eating a lot of it at one time. A little goes a long way and you will want to make these last as long as possible.
The chocolate bars will be available in two sizes: 3.25-ounce and 2.25-ounce.
Carefully selected organic cocoa beans and other fine ingredients were used to produce a line of chocolate with richer flavors and a creamy, smooth texture.
Here's a list of all the Chocolate Bars:
  • Dark Chocolate
  • Super Dark Chocolate 70% Cocoa - NEW!
  • Mocha Milk Chocolate - NEW!
  • Milk Chocolate
  • Espresso Dark Chocolate
  • Orange Dark Chocolate
Did you use to eat those Alphabet Cookies when you were younger? I did but back then they were Animal Cookies. So, if you loved Animal Cookies, you will love these just as much but better because they are baked with all the right ingredients. The Chocolate Alphabet Cookies were my favorite of the three flavors that they make with Cinnamon coming in a close second.

I have seen Newman's Own products in the grocery store but have never tried any.

The pomegranate licorice sounds delicious. I love anything pomegranate.

Like you, I'm not a big fan of apples just to pick up and eat. I like them with peanut butter or caramel apples.
