A Danger to Himself And Others Book Review

I have a really fast paced thriller/drama book to share with you about the NYPD Bomb Squad called A Danger to Himself And Others written by J.E. Fishman.

Synopsis:
Bomb Squad Detective Manuel Diaz exists in a troubled state. A former Army bomb tech, he misses the adrenaline rush of combat and feels little if any love from his partner, Sergeant Sandy Kahn. When he brings home the pressures of his job, it causes fights with his beautiful roommate, Jennifer. And, as if that weren’t enough, he also harbors a torturous secret.

When one disabled army veteran blows himself up in front of an Armed Forces Recruiting Station in Times Square and another blows himself up in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, all of Diaz’s worries become magnified. More than anything else, Manny wants to prove these incidents aren’t suicides. But is he right? If not suicides, what’s going on here?
Can he solve the cases without revisiting all of the things that haunt him from combat? Can he solve them without driving himself insane?

I have to admit I wasn't sure if I was going to like this book or not since it's a police drama, but the more I got into the story, the better it got. I love that although it was about criminals and catching a particularly bad one that liked blowing up wounded veterans, it also gave the book a back story of Manny Diaz that made him human and likeable.

Manny is pretty good at his job as a bomb tech in the Bomb Squad but he does have a tendency to lose his temper a lot so naturally a lot of people think he is suffering from PSTD because he is also a veteran but he has a good hunch about these veterans and that the bombs that go off are not being controlled by them. He isn't quite sure what is going on but he intends to get to the bottom of it because he doesn't like someone taking pot shots at good decent veterans who survived being in Iraq and Afghanistan.

His fellow officers don't believe him and that causes some friction and unfortunately, Manny takes it out some on his roommate, who also happens to be a beautiful woman. Sparks will be flying there also but Manny also has another secret that we don't find out about until much later in the story.

It's a good story and it's a human story that will appeal to just about everyone. It has all you could ask for in a thriller: action, mystery, murder, death and romance. What more could you ask for?

Happy Reading!

Praise for A Danger to Himself And Others:

"The book overall was excellent, filled with suspense and details so descript you felt you were right in each moment, adrenaline pumping alongside the characters. It is full of testosterone and fast paced action." --Kathryn Loving, aka Momma Fargo

"...writer J. E. Fishman stares convention in the face and manages to mix a true entertainment gumbo in A Danger to Himself and Others: Bomb Squad NYC Incident One.... The narrative also benefits from tight prose. While some thrillers could have whole pages removed due to superfluous writing, A Danger to Himself and Others stays its course and keeps the paragraphs short, the sentences direct, and the pages turning right to the climax." --ForeWord Reviews
"J.E. Fishman writes an intense and passionate storyline that is rich in detail, twists and turns, technical expertise and suspense. We are pulled into the daily drama and anxiety of the NYC Bomb Squad, where the smallest detail cannot be ignored.... A DANGER TO HIMSELF AND OTHERS is a well-paced, compelling storyline that reveals the intricate inner workings of law enforcement and the drama that is their private and professional lives.... The characters are colorful, believable, sometimes controversial, and add a realistic quality to the story." --The Reading Cafe

"A Danger to Himself and Others is the first book in an interesting new series about the NYPD bomb squad. It is fast-paced and kept me guessing and turning pages. Even when we knew more than the investigators, we still didn't know how things would turn out. This book gives an inside look at what goes through the heads of the guys going in and disarming bombs. I am looking forward to continuing the series." --WiLoveBooks
