Yacon Root Syrup Review

Disclosure: I got this product as part of an advertorial.

I have a new kind of syrup for you guys to try and it's called Yacon Root Syrup. It is naturally organically grown in Peru and from those fields, they take the highest quality plants to make this pure formula syrup.
Product Details
  • 100% pure Yacon syrup has shown to assist in weight management, increase fiber intake and promotes good bowel function.
  • Other benefits include: Lowers blood sugar. Prevents and controls hyperglycemia (over activity). Restores renal activity. Is a powerful Antioxidant.
  • High in prebiotics and probiotics, this syrup contains up to 50% of FOS (fructooligosacharides). It has been found that consumption of FOS does not increase blood glucose, and helps boost your bodies metabolism.
  • Naturally grown and sourced from the fields in Peru. Organic certified by our manufacturing specialists.
  • 100% pure raw organic syrup formula with no added preservatives. Bottled and tested in a FDA certified GMP facility in the USA.
It is a little bit darker than most syrups I have used before as a sweetener, but it's still very good and you don't need very much at all. Because of that, this makes an excellent choice to use if you are on a diet, like I am right now. I am doing the NutriSystem along with mixing in a few of the Weight Watcher products. I sort have made my own diet plan combining several different brands along with other healthy foods. I must be doing something right because I have lost 11 pounds so far.
Something else you might want to know if you are diabetic:
Yacon syrup has shown to remains low in calories and low on the glycemic index scale. This is due to the fact that the sugar contains high levels of oligofructose (inulin), a form of sugar that is not metabolized readily by the human body. For this reason, Yacon is ideal for diabetics and acts as a great alternative to conventional low calorie sweeteners.
As you can see, there is only 13 calories per spoon and if you use less than that, it's even better. It really doesn't take much to sweeten your tea or coffee, of course, if you are used to drowning your drinks, then you might need more. I have always tried to keep it a little under-sweet, so this worked out pretty good for me.
About the Yacon Root:
True to its name, Yacon Root, also known as Smallanthus sonchifolius, is a tuberous root that resembles a sweet potato or a yam. It can grow up to a full kilogram (2.2 pounds) when fully mature and like many root vegetables; its composition is mainly water and carbohydrates. However, what sets it apart is the type of carbohydrate contained in Yacon Root. The carbohydrate contained within Yacon Root is called Fructooligosaccharides (FOS), the most interesting compound to us that is also known as Inulin, which has been shown in a myriad of scientific studies to have positive health benefits.
Fructooligosaccharides is a starch found in many kinds of plant species that have edible roots, but Yacon Root seems to have the highest known concentration of it. This, in combination of the known health benefits of FOS makes Yacon Root a very valuable resource for creating an FOS health supplement.
The likes of Dr Oz have touted the health benefits of FOS and Inulin for its positive effects on the digestive system and the gastrointestinal tract. It is a wonderful prebiotic, meaning that it helps to improve the function of the healthy bacteria contained within the intestines. The Japanese have been using FOS as a sweetener alternative for years and have even labelled FOS as a ‘highly functional food.
I don't know about you, but this sure beats using those artificial sweeteners. I believe one day when I was watching Dr. Oz, he said we are actually doing more harm to our bodies by using artificial sweeteners than if you would just go ahead and use sugar in moderation. I have always felt the same way and that is why I have never really taken to diet soda's or other products that use this type of sweetener. I just make up for the calories by cutting something else out so I can have my 1 Dr. Pepper a day or a glass of Sweet Tea.
