Lance Underphal was devastated by his wife’s death, and now, the down-and-out crime-scene photographer can’t let her go. He wakes up plagued by premonitions. The double shooting of an Arizona real estate developer and his mistress/bookkeeper immerse Underphal in a world of incomprehensible phenomena. My Review:
Frank Salmon, the homicide detective on the case, does his best to blow off Underphal’s “visions.” But the murders keep piling up and the visions are all too real.
Salmon pursues Underphal’s clues from a popular strip club to a failing community bank, adding a blackmailing stripper to the body count.
Underphal struggles mightily with his psychic curse, teetering on the brink of insanity. His only hope for redemption is the voice in his head, the voice of his dead wife. Stumbling through dark vortexes of murderous intrigue, he comes to realize his visions will either kill him or lead to the capture of a killer—maybe more than one.
This story had a little bit of everything if you like murder/mysteries and this one will definitely not disappoint you. The murder occurs pretty early in the book and a crime scene investigative reporter brings along her camera man who is anything but ordinary.
He talks to his dead wife a lot and doesn't take care of himself. He starts getting really bad migraines that somehow morph into visions and the reporter and the lead detective think he's either crazy or on drugs. It's not until he starts giving them information that they haven't released about the murder that they start to pay attention.
I hope that you will give this book a shot because it's not your ordinary murder/mystery type book and you will come to love and laugh along with Underphal while he tries to figure out if he really is losing his mind or is his dead wife really visiting him and telling him things!
