I got to try one of Kroger's Skillet Meals in the Chicken Fajita's over the holiday season. I really did need that too, because as you all know, this time of year is hectic and having something that can be thrown together at last minute is crucial!
We were very surprised at how well that they came out! For it to be a frozen meal, I have to admit I really did enjoy the quickness, how big the veggies were and the size of the sliced chicken in the meal really made this meal a delight. The only thing I did add to the mix was some Mexican Rice, which is what we always put in our Fajita's. I know some people like to eat it on the side and we do, too, but this time, I added it into the meal itself and boy, was it awesome!
It does come with the tortilla's so you won't have to buy those extra! This meal was enough for us to have 2 meals out of actually. I don't eat a lot so one fajita was enough for me and the same goes for Mike also. We don't make them really skinny, so I guess that is why. There was enough left over for him and me to have another fajita the next night. Now, ordinarily, you wouldn't have that much in the meal, which says it's 2 or 3 servings, but because I added the Mexican Rice, I was able to stretch it to 4 servings. That was actually another reason I did that because I knew I wasn't going to be able to cook the next night either.
We also got a House Salad with Bacon Kit to go with our meal and this bag actually made 2 good sized bowls of salad with enough left over to make one more side salad the next night. All I added was the shredded cheddar cheese & bacon that was provided and the Ranch Dressing and that was it! These kits are really awesome to have in a pinch!
Now, the only place that I messed up was I forgot to take pictures of the Garlic Bread after it was baked! I don't know where my mind was that night, but we had just gotten back from shopping and I was tired so I guess it just slipped my mind. I think I forgot the bread was included but I did take a before picture when I first got the meal at Kroger, so I am not totally crazy!
This was actually a very long Garlic Bread so they were very generous with the portion size. The bread really was delicious and if you are a Garlic Bread fan, then Kroger's brand will be one that you might want to try. I know we will be getting it again in the future because the taste was great and it's less money than the name brands. And this one loaf lasted thru several meals, not just our fajita meal!
Kroger's Skillet Meals come in a variety of other flavors such as Shrimp Lo Mein, Tuscan-Style Penne, Sausage Rigatoni and Penne with Grilled Chicken. Add a Fresh Salad Kit and some Garlic Bread to the meal and you have a complete meal worthy of your family. It's a great time saver because the meals can be ready in about 10 minutes and it won't cost you an arm and a leg!
