I have a wonderful short book to share with you called Marcie written by Carly M. Duncan. It is a sad story about one girl who can't escape the haunting questions about her mother's death.
When Kate’s mother, Marcie, dies mysteriously she is forever tormented by the many questions surrounding her mother’s death. In Marcie’s absence Kate clings to her mother’s husbands, searching for solace.
As family secrets are revealed Kate works to build her own life and family, but the mystery of her mother’s death sidetracks her until she finally gets the answer she’s always hoped for.Like I said, this is really a sad story. Kate always felt like her mother loved her step-sister Danielle, more than she loved her and her felt like her father never did period. Marcie's new husband, Beau had adopted Kate so she was a part of that family but she never felt wanted.
One day her mother and Beau tell her that they are moving to Guam and they leave her with her step-sister, Danielle, who is anything but responsible! It doesn't take long before Danielle loses the house and Kate moves in with her brother and his girlfriend.
Kate does have a boyfriend named Charlie who really does love her and is her best friend. She tells him all of her thoughts and dreams. She does graduate high school with honors and gets a job at a bank, her own apartment and she is still with Charlie.
Kate's mother, Marcie comes home for a visit and Kate realizes her mother is not the same person. Then all of a sudden, she gets word that her mother fell off of a cliff into the ocean and is dead. Beau comes back to California and all he does is drink.
What is going on?
I will stop there because it is such a short book and don't want to reveal too much. Kate goes through a lot in her young life but between Charlie and her finally growing up and later on other things will be revealed, she is able to put it all behind her and go on with her life with Charlie, who she really does love and he loves her also.
