I have another spellbinder book to share with you Code Blood written by Kurt Kamm. I know you have seen the last 3 books about firefighters and this one does have some of that in it but mostly it is about 3 main characters and what they do with their daily lives until the day that they all meet in an explosive encounter.
Overview of Book:
Colt Lewis, a rookie fire paramedic, is obsessed with finding the severed foot of his first victim after she dies in his arms. His search takes him into the connected lives of a graduate research student, with the rarest blood in the world and the vampire fetishist who is stalking her.
Within the corridors of high-stakes medical research laboratories, the shadow world of body parts dealers, and the underground Goth clubs of Los Angeles, Lewis uncovers a tangled maze of needles, drugs and maniacal ritual, all of which lead to death. But whose death? An unusual and fast-paced LA Noir thriller.Colt was born and raised on a ranch in Wyoming with his father after his mother left and never came back. His father was not an affectionate man so Colt grew up without any friends or other family members. He dreamed of becoming a firefighter ever since he had seen a poster of them and when he graduated High School, he took off for California to train.
On his very first trauma with his partner, Brian, there is a girl that is hit by a truck in a freak accident and it severs her right foot and wouldn't you know it, some crazy guy who thinks he is a vampire, stole it! And then what does he do with it? Well, he sticks it in his freezer at home! Craziest thing I have ever heard of, putting body parts in with your frozen food is just plain YUK!
Colt is haunted by this girl and that he should have done more for her and decides to set out to find the man and get the foot back so that the girl can buried with all of her parts. Unfortunately, by the time he gets it, they have already buried her so he takes the foot to a beautiful spot in the woods and buries her foot and her blue t-shirt she was wearing that day.
There is a lot more to this story and I purposely left out a lot of key parts so that you will hopefully get the chance to either read the book or go see it as a movie.
I live in Malibu CA. I have used my contact with CalFire, Los Angeles County Fire Department, Ventura County Fire Department and the ATF, as well as my experience in several devastating local wildfires to write fact-based firefighter mystery novels. I have attended classes at El Camino Fire Academy and trained in wildland firefighting, arson investigation and hazardous materials response. I am also a graduate of the ATF Citizen's Academy.
Each of my novels has a firefighter with a special skill: Wildland / Arson Investigation / Fire Paramedic / HazMat Specialist. Each mystery is told from the viewpoint of the firefighter and the story revolves around his specialty. I am currently working on my fifth novel a USAR mystery
My latest and fourth mystery - HAZARDOUS MATERIAL, is now available. Hazardous Material recently won the Hackney Literary Award for Best Novel of the year.
