The Path of the Fallen Book Review

I have a really awesome book to tell you about called The Path of The Fallen written by Dan O'Brien. Now, I have to be honest and tell you that this is a BIG BOOK! I had to keep my arm propped up with a pillow to hold onto it and at first it was so full of technical stuff, I almost gave up but pushed on and finally, I got the hang of it and it turned out to be a truly awesome book! So, don't give up too early or you will miss a great story.
Set against the backdrop of the tundra and a world desperate for hope, the journey of a young man, E'Malkai, will come to define a realm that has been broken by an evil that does not sleep. A bitter betrayal, and the inception of a war that will consume the world, forces E'Malkai to confront the past and undertake a pilgrimage that is his birthright. Follow him on his journey and be transformed.
It took me awhile but I finally figured out that this planet (which was never really named that I know of) was actually a planet that the last survivors of a really nasty war fled Earth and crash landed on this planet. Earth is destroyed and the same evil that destroyed Earth was unwittingly brought on board the spaceship that brought these last humans to this new planet.

Now, they actually had 2 different types of people which was a little odd. Half of the population lived outside the technical and more advanced society and the other half lived in this bubble dome like place that floated in the sky or at least that is what I got from the description.

Of course, then there was the people called The Fallen who lived way outside of even those people in the desert and there was another group of monster like creatures that from the descriptions sounded a lot like King Kong! They hate humans and like to kill them and eat them so I don't know where they came from, unless the humans crash landed on their planet, which I am beginning to think that must be it because Earth would not have had these creatures.

Anyway, the main story is about a corrupt government (nothing new there, right?) who depend on computers and machines. Heck, half of the human race that lives in the bubble dome have some part of their body that is machine ran by computers. But, they take it even further by creating a Demi-God half man half machine thing that enjoys killing humans that won't submit to their way of doing things.  And he really is quite evil and the things he does to people, well, they will make you shudder.

They have one hope left and that is the coming of the "real" Creator (or Savior) and that just happens to fall upon a boy who is only 17 years old and it is his family line that is suppose to carry out being the Creator but this Demi-God stole the power from this boy's father (his uncle no less!).

The book is about the Final War where every single person on that planet has to take sides as to which side they will be loyal to but unfortunately, the people in the bubble domed have been lied to for so long, they don't even know that they are falling into a trap. You see, the machines and the Demi-God want to wipe all humans from the planet, just like they did on Earth.

Unless the true Creator can save them. And that is where the fun begins because almost to the very end, the 17 year old boy does not believe all the legends that point to him being "The One" and he does not think he can be what they say he is.

It's a very good book but it is large and it will take you some time to read but once you get started and get into the book, you won't be able to put it down until you know the whole truth and nothing but!

Happy Reading!
