Serenya's Song Book Review

I have another fascinating book to tell you about called Serenya's Song written by Mysti Parker. She also wrote A Ranger's Tale that I reviewed and gave one away a few weeks back. These aren't really continuous stories of the same couple but rather a character from the A Ranger's Tale leaves that city and starts new somewhere else and that is where this story picks up.
Here is an excerpt from the back of the book:
No one ever said love was easy...
Serenya Crowe may be a half-elf commoner, but she's no ordinary woman. With the ability to interpret dreams, and a birth defect that forces her to wear gloves, she's endured gossip and the cruelty of her husband, Sebastian, The Earl of Summerwind. All she's ever wanted is to live a quiet life and raise a family. When she meets the new stranger in town, her world and her heart, are turned upside down.

Wood-elf Jayden Ravenwing is an ex-secret agent who wants nothing more than to forget matters of the heart. He left the bustle of Leogard and his failed marriage to make a fresh start in Summerwind. He never planned to fall in love again, especially with the enchanting Serenya Crowe.

When a strange portal opens on the Crowe property, Jayden is thrown into an investigation, knowing that if he fails, Serenya and everyone in the town may die.

Together, he and Serenya must overcome an ancient evil, and their own inner demons, to save Summerwind and find the love they've always dreamed of.
My Thoughts:
This awesome book picks up where Jayden, one of the wood elves leaves the city he was living in with his wife until his wife's first husband whom they thought was dead for over a year returns. He had been kidnapped and was put into slavery. Jayden knows his wife loves him more plus before he vanished, she became pregnant with his child and Jayden knew the family needed to be back together and because he knew she would never tell him to leave, he made the decision for her.

I wanted to tell you that much so you get the feel of this book, Serenya's Song. Poor Jayden! He moves back home to a place in Summerwind where relatives have left him a place to live and what happens? He meets a woman out of the blue in the dark woods, almost runs her over and then he takes her back to his place to fix her up and what do you think happens?
Yep, they sleep together! And she is married to the Earl of Summerwind!!

But, all is not what it seems like on the surface and even I had no idea as the book progressed until a certain point then I became suspicious of what the secret was that the Earl held over Serenya. Now, here is where I differ with most people. Even in the movies and TV shows, they make us women out to be daft or something. If I felt like something was being held over me and I was suspicious, I would find out what the heck was going on, not blindly keep following my husband and believe what he wanted me to believe.

My daddy always said I was a stubborn girl and later woman. Once I make my mind up about something, I don't back down regardless of what others think. So, to see women follow blindly down a path that they have misgivings about just doesn't make sense to me. I guess I ask too many questions and I want answers pronto or I am out of here. I don't know. I have never been shy to ask the hard questions even when I kind of figured out what the answer was going to be. Even if I knew I was going to be hurt, I still asked.

Luckily for Serenya, this time, Jayden stayed put and decided himself that something wasn't right and decided he would not leave her alone until he got the whole truth and nothing but. So, I applaud him on that.  Glad to see he decided to fight for the woman that he felt was his soul mate. Yes, he loved the other one but not like he loves Serenya. They both love music, art or anything pertaining to that. They are both romantics and believe in those fairy tales do come true kind of love stories.

Oh, and yes, this is a fantasy book about elves, magic, dragon like monsters, healers and other fantasy creatures. But, that is the beauty of these type of books. They are meant to be read as a means to escape this world we live in and lose ourselves in a story and hold our breath waiting to see what happens.

If you don't get that from a book you are reading, then you are reading the wrong kind. Or your heart really isn't in to reading. I get lost in books. I will do my best to try and figure out who the bad guy is and what he's up to before the book tells me. I think fantasy, paranormal, science fiction, etc. are there to be mini vacations or escapes. Lose yourself in a book for a few hours and see what it does for you.

Serenya's Song is one of those books. You will be enchanted until the very end.

Happy Reading!
