Zevia Zero Calorie Soda Review & Giveaway **Closed**

Zevia has some oldie but goodie flavors mixed in with some of today's younger group's flavors. I was sent a six pack of assorted flavors to review and here are those flavors:
**Root Beer
**Ginger Ale
**Grapefruit Citrus
**Cream Soda
**Cherry Cola

I thought I should start with the answer to the question, Is it safe to drink Zevia?
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has affirmed Reb-A as “Generally Recognized as Safe” (GRAS) when used as a sweetener in food products over 10 times since December 2008. Extensive studies have shown that Reb-A (Stevia Extract) does not affect blood glucose or insulin levels.

Studies have shown that high purity stevia extracts are safe for diabetics.
Reb-A has also been shown to be non-mutagenic and at normal levels of use does not affect the GI tract, giving a very satisfying and natural sweetening alternative to sugar.
I think the one I liked the best was the Ginger Ale. It was the one that tasted most like Ginger Ale and I can't drink some of the others due to the fruit acids in the drinks. I have a chronic bladder condition and Acute Gastritis, so I have been cutting  lots of food and drinks from my everyday meals for a few weeks now. Also, it doesn't matter what brand or flavor but all soda's cause my heartburn to get worse or the bladder to burn so I had to enlist some help on these for a fair review.
The one that my friend chose was the Cream Soda and the Root Beer. She said she can handle those flavors in a pinch and she actually did really well. She is like me though, in that we can't drink a whole bottle so we have those coke caps you can put on cans and put back in the fridge for later.
Another reason she chose those 2 flavors she said was that it brought back so many memories  built up because they reminded her of her high school years and how great everything was back then and that we didn't have as many choices as we do today. She liked them both but the Cream Soda was her favorite. She said it almost tasted like eating a birthday cake with vanilla icing. Sounds pretty good to me!
Then my daughter and granddaughter took the Cherry Cola and the Grape Drinks. They thought those sounded like the best and they called me a few days later and said they really enjoyed the Grape the best, which is shocking because they are knee deep in coke products so this was a big departure for them.
I asked them both if they were sure about that and they said most definitely the Grape Soda was easier to handle with the after taste then the Cherry Cola. Now, that really surprised me because  my granddaughter can really pack those RC Cola drinks in a hurry but they are regular ones and I guess the deciding factor was the diet part.
Then lastly, my neighbor said she would do the Grapefruit Citrus because she loves Grapefruits and eats them several times a week for breakfast  (of course, she used either Equal or some other low sugar substitute because she has diabetes but it' s the on the low side and as long as she watches her numbers, she doesn't have to go on any medicines.
So all in all, I was able to match everyone with a cola and got some great reviews back which makes me happy also because I was able to provide a review and not have to back out of it because of health issues. I am hoping this won't last much longer and that they will have some good news for me sometime in the future.
Always check with a doctor before you just up and start something new without letting them know.  I don't and Zevia certainly doesn't know if you have any problems with this brand of soft drinks with Stevia (which is the sugar that they are using on these products. I would love for anyone with Diabetes to really make sure that this is okay for them.
I got a recipe for you from Zevia for a great punch!

Bayside Punch

• 1.5oz Pimms
• 3oz Lemonade
• 2oz Zevia Strawberry

In a glass, combine the PImms and lemonade over ice. Top with Zevia Strawberry soda.
This can be made for a larger crowd in a punch bowl by combining 1 part Pimms with 2 parts lemonade and upon serving, top with Zevia Strawberry.
This delicious cocktail was created by Matthew Salinas, the Bar Manager at the Sunset Marquis in Los Angeles, CA.

Here is a little excerpt from the About Us that I found interesting. You can read more by going to the About Us section:
The Z team is made up of soda-loving people. We grew up drinking classic soda flavors, and turned away from them for health reasons. So making naturally delicious, healthy versions of the familiar favorites we grew up with, without sugar, is our top priority. We make soda the way it should always have been.

For me, the Zevia story started with my conversion from a “sugar junkie” to a stevia fan. About 11 years ago, I quit sugar cold turkey in an effort to upgrade my health. I thought I was a health-conscious person – I exercised frequently, consumed meat in moderation, and consumed natural and organic products whenever possible. But when I really looked at my diet, I found I was consuming up to 250 grams of sugar per day, between protein shakes, energy bars, juice-based spritzers and other foods and beverages. That’s about 1,000 calories a day, just from sugars.

My wife and I decided we needed to make a change. We began using stevia as a sweetener, and to this day, my family uses only stevia in our household. Stevia has given us an alternative without negative side effects, and has kept us from feeling deprived in our sugar-free lifestyle. It’s had a tremendous impact on how we feel every day, and I’m confident it’s benefitting our long-term health.

There are times that we encounter fear and disappointments in life yet we still manage to stand up straight and face it rather that being silent. That was a very good example of being a brave person.
