The Offering Book Review

I have a really awesome book to tell you about today called The Offering written by Angela Hunt. It's an unusual and moving story and I think you will want to read it for yourselves after I tell you a little bit about it.

Here is an excerpt from the back of the book:
After growing up as an only child, Amanda Lisandra wants a big family. But since she and her soldier husband can't afford to have more children right away, Mandy decides to earn money as a gestational carrier for a childless couple.
She loves being pregnant, and while carrying the child she dreams of having her own son and maybe another daughter. . .
Just when the nearly perfect pregnancy is about to conclude, unexpected tragedy enters Mandy's world and leaves her reeling. Devastated by grief, she surrenders the child she was carrying and struggles to regain her emotional equilibrium.
Two years later she studies a photograph of the baby she bore and wonders if the unthinkable has happened---could she have inadvertently given away her own biological child? Over the next few months Mandy struggles to decide between the desires of her grief-stricken heart and what's best for the little boy she has never known.
This was such a great book and a sad book in some ways but you will find happiness also in this book because it really is what I call a "realistic" book and it reflects upon life with great truth. Bad things happen to people all the time but they also experience great joy. None of us is immune to what life brings. Some may not have great loss or sadness but their lives are never peachy keen either. We all suffer in some ways.

Mandy wanted to have another child so that her daughter would have a sibling to grow up with but unfortunately, her husband is in the military with Special Forces and they have to put off having more children until they have more money. So, Mandy decides to be a surrogate mother to help out with their finances.

A French couple who happens to be very wealthy wants a child and so Mandy becomes their surrogate. What happens next is truly heartbreaking and Mandy and her daughter, Marilee end up in an emotional ride for the next 2 years as Mandy fights to recover and go on with her life with Marilee.

Mandy has gotten news that rocks her world again and in the beginning she does what any mother I think would do but finally in the end when she really sits down and thinks about her choice and how it will affect everyone, she truly does the most heroic thing.

In turn because she backs off from this fight, she in turn gets blessed with joy when the French family comes to visit and they form a bond that will bind them forever with each other.

It may not be what a lot of people would choose to do or even end up going thru with the process but Mandy in the end knows that she cannot hurt people just to get what she wants. She has to do the right thing for everyone, including herself and her daughter Marilee.

You really must read this great inspirational book!

Happy Reading!
