I just love romance novels that also bring you back to the past and a glimpse of how they saw things back then versus what we do today is totally different! I have a wonderful book I think you will all like called A Noble Groom written by Jody Hedlund.
Here is an excerpt from the back of the book:
Annalisa Werner's hope for a fairy tale love is over. Her husband failed her in every way and now his death has left her with few options to save the family farm. She needs a plentiful harvest. That, and a husband to help bring it in. Someone strong, dependable. That'll be enough. A marriage for love...that's something she's given up on.
So her father sends a letter to his brother in the Old Country, asking him to find Annalisa a groom.
Then a man appears: Carl Richards, from their home country of Germany and a former schoolteacher---or so he says. He's looking for work and will serve on the farm until her husband arrives.
With time running out, she accepts his help, but there's more to this man than he's admitting. He's also gentle, kind, charming---unlike any man she's ever known. But even as Carl is shining light into the darkness of her heart, she knows her true groom may arrive any day.Poor Annalisa! Her husband is dead and left her with one child, a daughter named Gretchen and a baby on the way. Her father takes it upon himself to get her another suitor who will one day become her husband. Of course, Annalisa knows nothing of this so when events start to unfold, she is none the wiser.
A man named Carl Richards arrives at the farm and says he is from their mother country, Germany and that he is a former schoolteacher and is looking for work. He says he will stay on until her new husband arrives.
Carl Richards, however is keeping a secret that her father knows about also. He is actually running away from almost being hung for a crime he did not commit. And the other secret is that he is actually the son of a Baron and is well educated, a Professor of Science, and has never worked on a farm a day in his life!
But, Carl is determined that he will help Annalisa on the farm even though he blisters his hands in doing so. He is also very sunburned and every muscle in his body aches. Annalisa is amazed at how kind he is to her and Gretchen because Hans was not. He never showed any affection or kindness to either of them.
Okay, I am stopping here, so you will have plenty to read about. I love a great story where there is so much going on than just the love story but a whole background of things going on also. It makes the story more interesting and keeps you up wanting to read more.
Alot happens to Carl and Annalisa in this story and some of it is not good, like the barn burning down and Carl getting hit on the back of the head. These are mysteries that they will work out together which in turn brings them closer together.
They don't know it yet, but they have an enemy who will stop at nothing to get her land and Carl is the only one who can save them all. So, you see, it has alot of drama and suspense along with growing love and admiration for each other. That is the kind of book that anyone would want to read.
