DaVinci Gourmet Syrups Review

I know you have seen me in the past talk about DaVinci Gourmet and their flavors for  your coffee or other drinks or even food or in baking. You will really love a few new ones that I have today and then I have some of the original flavors also to tell you about. DaVinci Gourmet sent me these flavors to review:

1. Hazelnut Classic
2. Caramel Sugar Free
3. Vanilla Classic
4.  Zero Calorie Chocolate
5.  Zero Calorie Kahula

We love the Hazelnut the best and it has always been that way, whether as a creamer or a syrup or even in candies and such! We go thru so much creamer here at the house because that is the only flavor that Mike really cares about for his coffee. He will drink plain creamer from time to time but Hazelnut is #1 around here! So, he was pumped to be able to use a flavored syrup instead of a creamer. It sorta almost tastes the same but the flavored syrups are just a tad better than flavored creamer. The creamers tend to be more sweeter whereas the syrups just give you the whole flavor of Hazelnut.
Oh, by the way, DaVinci has now created a new site called My Drink Works where they give you all kinds of suggestions and recipes to try all of their flavored syrups! Oh wow, and they even have recipes for their sauces and for teas!  We found an awesome smoothie recipe to try with the Hazelnut Syrup and I think you will love this one to! It's a simple name to remember, Hazelnut Smoothie! Here are your ingrediants and instructions:

Ingredients

  • 3 oz DaVinci Gourmet Hazelnut (Original) Classic Syrup (Untoasted)
  • 1 oz espresso or strongly brewed coffee
  • 1 oz milk
  • 2 cups ice

Directions

Combine ingredients in blender and blend on high speed for 15 to 30 seconds.

Yield

one 16-ounce serving

Next we tried the Vanilla Classic. Mike loves Vanilla Ice Cream but not so much in his coffee, so this one was all mine! And I made the most of it, too!
This Vanilla Syrup is even good on pancakes! You gotta try it and then take some Hershey's Chocolate Syrup and don't put much or you will drown out the Vanilla flavor. You just want enough to make it give your pancakes and the Vanilla a little extra Humph!

Well, I just went over and poked around some more to see what was going on and landed on the dessert page! Yes, you can bake with DaVinci's syrups and I just finished reading a heck of a brownie recipe! But that is not all you can do with DaVinci syrups. They are even using it in frozen desserts, for instance, their Peach flavored syrup can make a Peach Sorbet! I loved it so much I had to share:
1 tablespoon DaVinci Gourmet Vanilla Classic Syrup (can use sugar free)
1 cup water
1 cup sugar
2 cups peeled and pureed fresh peaches

Directions:
Combine the water and sugar in a small saucepan over high heat. Simmer until sugar is dissolved, about two minutes. Stir in the pureed fresh peaches and Da Vinci Gourmet Vanilla syrup and pour into a four cup glass baking dish or non-reactive roasting pan.
Freeze one hour or until the sorbet is starting to freeze. Stir well, scraping the sides and bottom of the pan. Continue freezing, stirring the sorbet every 20 minutes or until all the liquid is frozen. Serve, spooning into cups or cover with plastic wrap directly on the surface of the sorbet. *sorbet may be prepared in a standard ice cream maker.
Doesn't that sound like peach heaven, especially down here in Georgia! Leave it to me to find something we can peaches for but would have never thought to use DaVinci syrups to get the job done!
Now, here is where Mike really said no way is he going to try Sugar Free Caramel! I don't know why he makes such a fuss over Sugar Free. He doesn't know this but I have been giving him Sugar Free Hazelnut Creamer for years! I just keep the regular container and then pour the Sugar Free into it and he hasn't said one word about there being a taste difference.

So, if Caramel is your yummy flavor, then this one is really for you, and especially if you are a diabetic and need to watch your sugar intake, DaVinci has several other flavors that are Sugar Free, like Vanilla and a few others, so don't feel left out. Here's the recipe for the Sugar Free Caramel Smoothie:

4 tablespoons DaVinci Gourmet Caramel Sugar Free Syrup
4 tablespoons lowfat milk
1 cup ice
1/2 cup sugar-free vanilla frozen yogurt

Combine ingredients in a blender set on high speed and blend until smooth. It will make the same size as the Hazelnut one at the top. They are really simple to make and it will give you something new to try!

Now, here is where I did not tell Mike that this one was Chocolate Zero Calories. As long as it doesn't say Sugar Free he thinks it's something else plus I didn't let him see the bottle. I just made him a coffee, poured a little bit of this in there, added a scoop of vanilla ice cream and topped it off with some reduced fat Cool Whip and then topped it with a little bit of Hershey's Chocolate Syrup (reduced calories) and he thought that was the best mocha coffee! Even better than Starbucks! You just gotta play with it a little bit til you find the right flavor for you.

And you can just make it plain chocolate coffee if you want. You will love this next recipe called Sugar Free Butter Rum Mocha:
  • 1/2 oz DaVinci Gourmet Chocolate Sugar Free Syrup
  • 1/2 oz DaVinci Gourmet Butter Rum Sugar Free Syrup
  • 1 shot espresso
  • steamed milk
Combine ingredients in a 12 oz cup. Mix well.

Now the last one we tried was the Zero Calorie Kahula. This was by far the best low calorie syrup I have ever had the pleasure of tasting.  I could not have told you it had Zero Calories if I had not known or seen the bottle I would have assumed it was the real McCoy! Mike couldn't tell the difference either and I didn't tell him either.

I made him one of his favorite brands of coffee and then just added some regular creamer to lighten it and then I poured about a spoon and a half in there and then gave it to him and he just gave me a thumbs up!

Now, on this one, I am gonna give you a "real" drink and you will love it. I used to drink these when I would go out with the girls but I haven't had one of these in a very long time so I did make one just for the heck of it and then sipped about 2 good ones and gave the rest to hubby. I can't be drinking any kind of alcohol on top of all the meds I take. I sure don't want to end up like some of those Hollywood people who drink and take pain meds or depression meds or whatever the heck they take. This is called Left Coast White Russian:

  • 3-4 pumps DaVinci Gourmet KAHLUA® Flavored Sugar Free Syrup
  • Top off Silk© brand soy creamer (or half and half)
  • 2 shots Vodka
  • Fill Crushed or chopped ice

  • Fill Old-fashioned style glass with crushed or chopped ice.
    Add vodka and KAHLUA syrup.
Fill glass with Silk© soy creamer (or half & half)
    Stir and enjoy!

They have added something new to their line and I know nothing about it but thought I should pass along some info to you in case it is of interest:

DaVinci Gourmet Syrups certainly seem delicious! I can think of a lot of different uses for them. Zero Calories sounds terrific to me also for the Chocolate flavor. I would like to try this on ice cream too.
