Here is a description I found online about the book because there is no back cover:
"Like A Suicide" is a psychological thriller/suspense about 'Wraith' who is a serial killer. He believes proper order can only be brought about in the world via chaos. Most of his kills make sense in that way.
It just happens that this time someone has the nerve to bring chaos into his world by stealing money from him. After tracking down the perpetrator James and confronting him Wraith concludes that he is either a genius or an idiot after the man denies knowing anything about the stolen money in a convincing manner.
Wraith concludes James must die but decides to take his time and find out if this is the guy that might provide the challenging kill he has been looking for all along. He has to do all this with Detective Sweeney, the local superstar detective hot on his trail.
As he gets ready to go for the kill Wraith can sense that something is wrong. It's just that this time this kill seems 'Like A Suicide', which makes it much more difficult than previous kills.I will tell you that there are parts of the book that are brilliant and then there is the dark side of this book. Whew, I don't know what kind of frame of mind you have to be in to be able to write this way, but whatever it is, I am glad I know nothing about it and that I can't even imagine how someone could come up with all these details!
I will tell you two things I won't read or let's say I skip when I am reading a book that is too graphic or too horrifying for me to read and that is: children and pets. I absolutely refuse to read what is written about someone hurting either of these subjects. I did have to skip about 2 pages of this book that dealt with a killing of a dog because as wild as it sounds, this Wraith character has a rule: no babies or children, but I guess innocent puppies or kittens did not make the list.
I know that doctor's all the time say to watch children and if they start abusing pets then you have a problem that needs to be addressed ASAP! Well, this Wraith's mother did just that when he was a boy and he got hauled off to someplace and had to stay there until he convinced the doctor that he was better, but it was all an act. He did not get better, he actually decided right then and there that some day he would come back when he was older and stronger and kill the doctor!
The book itself is not very long. But boy, does it pack a powerful punch in every single page. At first I wasn't sure but after about 10 pages, I figured out what was wrong with the whole scenario and sure enough I was right. Like I said, I have read hundreds of these and can now spot what is gonna happen or what the person is. I do it on TV shows all the time and my husband will get so mad at me for ruining the story for him.
I can tell you also, that this would make an absolutely horrific movie and if that ever happens, count me out! I can read about this stuff all day long but watching it on TV or in the Movies, is a whole different thing, especially one as dark as this one. Wraith kills people for a living but he also kills for the heck of it. He has a partner named Vixen who is just as sick as he is and they would make a perfect Mr. & Mrs. Frankenstein!
At least with Wraith there is a medical reason for his meaness but in Vixen, there is no such reason, she is just pure evil and the whole time, it is just so that she can feel worthy of killing herself!! Isn't that just about insane? This girl does everything she can to convince Wraith to help her kill herself so she has to prove it over and over again.
Mr. Archer, I don't know what kind of dark place you had to go to in order to write this book, but I can honestly say, I hope I never go there. I think this book is by far the absolutely most horrifying book I think I have ever read. If anyone from Hollywood comes a knocking, you should grab the money and run because I know it will make an equally horrifying movie for those who thrive on this kind of stuff.
The writing is definitely new and interesting along with horrifying but it was told in great detail, great writing skills and in a story that will forever stay in my mind, even though I don't want it in there. You won't easily forget this one either if you read it!
Good Luck Mr. Archer, although I don't think you are gonna need it. Hollywood, watch out because the new horror king has just been awakened and he can write a doozy of a book!
