Here is an excerpt from the book cover:
Dr. John Meacham goes on a shooting spree at this office, killing his associates, staff, and two patients. Then Meacham turns the gun on himself. Much of the blame for the massacre falls on Dr. Lou Welcome, who counseled Meacham for years before when Meacham's medical license was suspended for problems related to his alcoholism and anger-management issues.
Lou knew that Meacham was an excellent physician who'd shown a strong recovery and fought hard to get his licence to be restored. After hearing the news of the shootings, Lou is stunned like everyone else, but he is also utterly incredulous.
And when he begins to look into matters, the terrifying evidence he finds takes him down a path of unspeakable conspiracy that seems to lead directly to the White House. Shocking, chilling, and with scientific details that are based on today's headlines, Oath of Office will have you questioning headlines, Oath of Office will have you questioning everything you know about those entrusted with our health care and our lives. My Thoughts:
Again, this was a book I did not think I would like but once I got into it, I was able to see the bigger picture and came to like it alot. So much so, that I stayed up all night to finish it so I could put it in this blog hop giveaway event. It does have some humor, some love and the underdog against all the odds.
This poor Dr. Welcome gets blamed for not catching any kind of strange behavior from another doctor who goes nuts after one of his patients will not lose the weight he has been trying to get her to lose for a long time. He screams at her and chases her out to the waiting room where he realizes all those people heard him call her names so he irrationally thinks, I have to get rid of the witnesses. I know, stupid thinking but he was not in his right mind, come to find out, but not because Dr. Welcome missed something.
He was slowly being poisoned by a company who was testing their product on people without their knowledge. So, Dr. Meacham in his delirious state goes back to his office and comes back with a gun and shoots 7 people dead in his office. All but 2 of them were his own staff and another doctor who shared the practice with him. Then Dr. Meacham shoots himself in the head.
He survives long enough to go thru surgery and when Dr. Welcome gets there to see what is going on, he encounters all the ER staff doing really weird things and can't believe what he sees! The surgeon is digging around in Dr. Meacham's head like he is looking for something in a mound of earth or something. There is a huge hole around where the bullet went in and all of Dr. Meacham's vital signs are in bad shape but no one does anything to correct it.
Dr. Welcome steps in and orders all the necessary meds to get him stabilized but in the end, it did not matter. Dr. Meacham died later on and Dr. Welcome wondered if he had gotten there sooner could he have saved him because of the ER's weird behavior, much like Dr. Meacham's.
Dr. Meacham's last words were, "No witnesses"!
I think you all will like this book because it is well written and a really good story with believable characters and with a plot that is not too far fetched.
