Newman's Own Chocolates & Sour Licorice Sponsor Spotlight Review

Well, are you ready for some great chocolate and Sour Licorice for Halloween?  Now, you can even do one better, have organic dark chocolate that is much better for you and without all those chemicals! Yes, it is Newman's Own Organic Chocolates I am talking about. They have some of the best dark chocolates you will find anywhere. This is what I was sent to review:

1. Dark Chocolate 54%
2. Espresso Dark Chocolate 54%
3. Orange Dark Chocolate 54%
4. Super Dark Chocolate 70%
5. Milk Chocolate 34%
6. Mocha Milk Chocolate 34%
7. Milk Chocolate Caramel Cups
8. Dark Chocolate Caramel Cups
9. Milk Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
10. Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
11. Dark Chocolate Peppermint Cups

Whew, that was a mouthful to say and write! I have never seen so much chocolate all at one time (except in stores) but not at my house! My husband eyed the Peanut Butter Cups from the get go! He pretty much consumed those babies in about the first 30 hours. Oh, let me tell you, these are a little different than most cups. These packages have 3 cups in them not 2 like most others do. They are a touch smaller but there are 3 of them and they pack a powerful punch. I like the Peppermint Cups the best out of the cups with the Caramel coming in second. I let Mike have the Peanut Butter because he is nuts over them! All five carry Rainforest Alliance Certification. Both Caramel cups carry the USDA Seal. Now, that is what you call a good thing! Me, I just like the fact that they melt in my mouth.

Now, where to start with the Chocolate Bars? Mmm, let's go with the Mocha Milk Chocolate because that is my favorite. If you are a coffee person or just like the flavor of coffee, you will love this Mocha Milk Chocolate! It is smooth and silky going down and at the last minute you will taste that mocha like coffee taste. Nothing better than that! My next favorite is the Espresso Dark Chocolate. Now, with this one, you will definitely taste the bold taste of espresso but the rich velvety dark chocolate tones it down a bit and it will all melt away into your mouth as you take that last swallow! Phew, if you are an Espresso freak, then you are gonna love this dark chocolate.

I loved the Dark Chocolate 54% because it is a true chocolate experience. This is what chocolate is really like before all the other stuff is added whether it is fruits, nuts or other flavors. This is the chocolate that starts it all. If you are a pure chocolate fan, this is gonna rock your socks off. The Super Dark Chocolate 70% is really what they call a true baking chocolate. I can eat it but not much at a time. I think this one would make a great bar to use in a chocolate recipe or to shave pieces of it off on a Chocolate Cake or Mousse. I didn't have time to do something like that before I had to write this review but that is what I would have done with it. I would have made a Chocolate Mousse and then topped it with whipped cream then shaved off the Super Dark Chocolate on top of that to add a totally different taste to a scrumptious dessert!

Lastly, the Milk Chocolate 34% is a really good smooth and easy going chocolate that will have you thinking it is one of those other chocolates but where this one differs is that it is only 34%! Remember they only use Organic Cane Juice to sweeten these chocolates along with Organic Cocoa Butter. Then to finish with is the Orange Dark Chocolate. I wasn't sure how I would react to this one but was pleasantly surprised at how good it tasted. It is not like a real tart noticeable orange but a more mellow and pleasing smoothness mixed in with the rich dark chocolate to make an exceptional treat! You experience the orange right at the last little swallow while it is on it's way down.

I can tell you that I have never been one to like Licorice, but when the Sour ones came, I was really surprised that they weren't as bad as I had thought they would be. Of course, I still had my faves and that was the Sour Mango and the Sour Strawberry. Mike liked the Sour Apple and Cherry the best. I have never really been into anything much that is Apple or Cherry in the candy family so that might have alot to do with it. Other than that, the other two were awesome!

Here is what Newman's has said about their introduction of the new Sour Licorice:

Newman’s Own Organics introduces the first sour licorice twist made with organic ingredients. Licorice twists are the most popular kind of licorice candy and the organic sugar and sour crystals, derived from natural citrus sources, on the surface of the twists provides the special taste for our four tantalizing new flavors: Sour Strawberry, Sour Cherry, Sour Mango and Sour Apple.

With the popularity of our regular twists in Black, Strawberry, and Pomegranate, we felt our customers would also enjoy the chance to try these sour ones that offer a different taste experience.  I am running out of room so I won't bring the last one, Sour Strawberry's image since it really is gonna look almost just like the Cherry and Apple. I do hope that you will go and visit Newman's Own Organics site and take a look at new Sour Licorice line of candies that have been added in addition to the new sour flavors.

I do hope that you will try at least one or two of the new flavors for yourself. I didn't want to make this post too long because there was so much to talk about and I left off the image of the Sour Cherry and the Sour Strawberry because both have red & white packages just like the Sour Apple and did not want it to look like I was repeating my pictures. And then one last quote from Nell about the Licorices because she knows them better than anyone!

This is what Nell says about the Licorices:
“When I was a kid I loved licorice because it was so much fun to eat. I loved the chewy texture, and you could stretch it and tie it in knots, or bite off the ends and blow through it”, said Nell Newman, co-founder and president of Newman’s Own Organics. “Now I can enjoy our own tasty organic version of my favorite childhood candy! It’s also a great treat for the movies, as it’s much quieter to eat than popcorn,” The five ounce package is great for keeping in your desk at work, having as a snack at home, in your car while doing errands, or out hiking. The smaller package is also a good economic choice. Health conscious consumers will appreciate that the rich tasting candy is low in fat, sodium and cholesterol free, and contains no trans-fat.
Newman's Own Organics is offering the winner of my Harvest Halloween Blog Tour Giveaway Package that starts on the 1st and ends on the 15th of October, their own set of the same chocolates and sour licorice I just reviewed! Thanks Newman's Own Organics! Open in the U.S. only.

The chocolates look delicious!
Another item I'd like to try is the Nell’s Breakfast Blend coffee.
Thanks for the review!

I have read so much about Newman's Own products and how healthy and organic it is, and that is good. I've also read many blogs where the products are reviewed and all of that's been good also. I would love to try anything by Newman's Own. I don't think there's anything on the website that I wouldn't mind trying. I may gain 1000 pounds in the process, but it would be worth it. :)

The chocolate cups sound magnificent! I love knowing that I'm not sacrificing taste to eat organic. I'd really love a review of the chocolate chip cookies to see if they taste as good as the chocolate.
