I have a real mystery to let you in on and the name of the book is called Crashers written by Lindy S. Hudis. I have been trying to mix up the books lately because we were getting in a rut with all the romance & such, so I have switched it up some and if you find that you would prefer to go back to the others, let me know. Let's try this out for a little while and see how it goes.
I love mysteries/thrillers/science fiction/serial killer books just as much as I do the others. I love trying to solve the mystery before the book lets me in on the secret, What about you?
Here is an excerpt from the book:
A riveting story of love and desperation, greed and redemption. My Thoughts:
Fraudulent car accidents is a multi-million dollar racket, involving unscrupulous medical providers, personal injury attorneys, and the cooperating passengers involved in the accidents—and who also receive a portion of the illegal proceeds. Such is the fate of newly engaged, Nathan and Shari, whose joy is tempered by the dark cloud of mounting debt.
A chance encounter with a stranger in whom Shari confides her troubles proves fortuitous: he tells her of a get-rich-quick scheme that will put her and her fiancé on easy street. Seduced by the chance to move from hard times to good times in no time, Shari takes the carrot offered her, and finds herself acting as a “stuffed passenger”—the “victim” in a staged auto accident. The act goes according to plan and Shari gets her payday, but getting out and breaking free of the insurance fraud underworld will take nothing short of a miracle.
A modern day cautionary tale, Crashers is a true-to-life novel that uncovers how the innocent get lured into the scheme of “cappers” and “hammers.”
Nathan Townsend is a stock broker on his way up the corporate ladder when he is "stabbed in the back" by Tom Goodman. He loses his job but even worse, they take away his broker's license. His girlfriend is Shari, who is a college student working as a waitress and who also needs money, like 5 figures worth, to shoot a film that is needed for her class project. She loses her job also, so now both her and Nathan are unemployed and broke.
Shari is in a staged accident and that is how she meets Bryce and his lawyer, Nastic. Both of them are into alot of shady stuff and you could say they are crooks who commit fraud on the insurance companies. But, the biggest crook of all is Captain Timothy Gallagher who works for the LAPD.
But, there is a monkey wrench in their operation because Detective Louise Holley of the LAPD has been working undercover to break up this accident ring. She gets a tip about Charlie who had worked for Bryce & Nastic. Because he had failed he was killed by the big B.K., shot twice in the chest. Bryce is warned to get rid of Louise Holley.
Shari & Nathan by this time have helped Bryce do a few accidents because they needed the money so badly. Bryce knew his days were numbered so he planned to stage one more accident. Unfortunately, for him, he somehow misjudged or got too cocky and he hit a tanker truck and burned to death.
I will leave off on that note so that you can find out for yourselves what happens. As usual, I do skip alot of stuff in between so that you don't get all the details.
One winner is going to get (1) copy of the book! Good Luck! Open to the U.S. only.
