When I got this in the mail, I could not for the life of me figure out what it was until I opened the pouch and there inside was the new Larabar's called Uber Bars for me to try. After I ate all four of them, I got in touch with them right away and said, "I need to do a giveaway on these, they are awesome and readers need to know you have made this great bar"! So, they agreed and now you are gonna get to taste the same (4) bars that I got to try:
1. Apple Turnover
2. Bananas Foster
3. Cherry Cobbler
4. Roasted Nut Roll
I kid you not, you are gonna love these bars! I normally aren't too crazy about the fruity bars as much as I am about chocolate, coconut, mocha, etc. But, these have changed my mind and I will be getting more of them! I haven't checked my Kroger store yet but I am optimistic that they will have them because they have a whole section of organic, natural, good for you foods and it seems like I recall them having one whole small aisle of nothing but all the different brands of protein/organic/natural bars for you to snack on.
My favorite was the Bananas Foster and the ingredients in it were: dried bananas, walnuts, almonds, pecans, dates, sea salt, cinnamon, and natural sweeteners. All of the bars were extremely moist and not hard like alot of those things tend to be. I had this baby woofed down in about 3 or 4 bites and it was all over! The authentic taste of bananas is what set it off and if you liked bananas, then this will be your "new" go to bar instead of reaching for a chocolate candy bar or donut at the office, you will have one these instead. I forgot to check to see how they stacked up with the calories but if it helps, then by all means, you need to switch. I know that you will definitely get more calories!
Next up was the Cherry Cobbler and I have to be honest and tell you that this one scared me a little because cherries is one of those things that you either dislike immensely or you fall in love. I have always loved Cherry Pies and I don't know if you remember these or not but back in the 70's they had those fruit filled like turnovers and I had to one one several times a week. Naturally, this is not going to taste like a light fluffy and flaky pie crust, but by gosh, it sure was good! The ingredients listed in this one is: a combination of dried cherries, almonds, pecans, cashews, raisins, dates, sea salt, and natural sweeteners.
And it's only 190 calories!!! Yes, you heard me right! Gosh, this is one guilty pleasure you will not have to feel bad about, unless of course, you cheat and eat 2 then, you might have a problem. These bars are so packed with nuts and grains and some dried fruits that you will feel so full if you try to eat more than one. I really recommend against that because you will feel like a beached whale! So, eat one then wait a little while and see how full you feel, then if you need something, I would get a protein to round all of that out.
The third one I tried was the Roasted Nut one and although it is not completely the same, it reminded me alot of the Payday candy bar that we used to have. We really love almost all kinds of nuts in our family, and I knew that I would love this one. Now, remember, all of these bars are so moist that when you go to unwrap them, they are so moist that they will get your fingers sticky! So, just wash your hands before opening the package so that you don't transfer any germs onto your nut roll. That is what I started calling them because it is so loaded down with nuts! The ingredients in this one is 100% accurate to a T! They are the almonds, cashews, peanuts, pecans, and macadamia nuts that bring the crunch and the flavor we go nuts for. What did I tell you?
I saved the Apple Turnover for last because I admit I am not a huge apple fan. I used to love the Granny Smith green ones but as I got older, I just couldn't hardly stomach them much anymore I can eat Apple Pie as long as it is warmed up and has vanilla ice cream on it, so that should tell you how much I really don't care for it, that I have to hide it as much as possible. But, guess what? It was just as good as the other 3! I was so excited that I loved it! Mike thought I had lost my mind when I did a little victory dance. But you have to understand why. And I am sure all my regular readers know I have stomach and bladder issues, so when I can find something that I can tolerate well and it tastes good, well, that is a good day for me. This bar is also 190 calories with a mix of walnuts, pecans, dried apples, raisins, dates, cinnamon, sea salt, and natural sweeteners.
I think with these 4 new bars that Larabar has added to their growing product line, they should have no problems with these. There is however one problem and that is that it is currently not available in Canada but hopefully, some time in the near future, they make it up that way. I wish everyone could have the opportunity to try these flavorful bars because you would want to reach for one of these instead of a candy bar or big piece of cake or whatever your personal favorite is. These really did help to fill me up and it was the right kind of filling up that stays with you for a good while so you won't be eating bad things.
They also have a number of new flavors since the last time I wrote about them. They now have a Cappuccino, Chocolate Chip Cherry Torte, Orange Float and Pineapple Upside Down Cake! Mmm, maybe next time I round those up for a test drive and be able to have another giveaway some time down the road. Unless you beat me to it and get to taste them before I do, then give me a holler and let me know how you liked them.
Oh, just so you know, Larabar's products are gluten free and they are vegan. I know nowadays that seems to be the main question that people ask. I don't know if we have always had these ailments and nobody knew what to call them or if it is something new, but out of curiosity I would love to know when and how did they first find out that people with celiac could not eat gluten. Does anybody know that answer?
Here's just a brief history lesson in how Larabar got started:
It started out as just a hike, no different than countless others I've taken into the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Little did I know I was about to come up with a mountain of an idea: Combine wholesome ingredients such as fruits and nuts to create a food product that's tasty, healthy and convenient.Connect with Larabar several ways:
In that instant, in May 2000, LÄRABAR® was born. After scouring the aisles of grocery stores and noting popular flavors of ice cream and cookies, I delved into my own product development. Natural foods, I believed, should be fun and enjoyable as well as good for you. With friends and family serving as focus groups, I tinkered with recipes until a consensus on yummi-ness was reached.
The next step was to launch a company to market what would initially be five delicious LÄRABAR flavors: Cherry Pie, Apple Pie, Cashew Cookie, Banana Cookie, and Chocolate Coconut Chew. I also assembled a sophisticated manufacturing arm... what amounted to be a Cuisinart™ and a rolling pin. The first batch of bars I produced for retail had to be sealed by hand — all 500 of them!
