Daddy's Home Book Review

Whew, this was a tough book to read in certain parts! It is a very good book though if you like thrillers/mysteries the way I do. It just was a little too gross when it detailed what the killer did to one woman in particular and I get a little sensitive when it comes to female parts but if you can get past that little detail, this book will keep you up wanting to read it and have the case solved. As per my usual review, I like to give you an excerpt from the book and then I will tell you a little bit about what I thought as I read the book:
A killer stalks his prey...A calculating and deadly killer is in search for what he terms as his perfect family. Preying upon single mothers and their innocent children, the police have dubbed him "The Family Man".

He watches them...He takes them...He plays out his role as the perfect father. When things don't go so perfect in his insane fantasy world, the family man kills.

Holly Jennings is on the case...Crime Scene Investigator Holly Jennings of the San Diego Police Department is determined to track him down and see that justice is served. With Holly being a single mother herself, this man's crimes are deeply personal to her, and turn more so when a friend and her daughter become the latest victims of "The Family Man".

Along with tracking an evil killer, Holly is dealing with her own internal demons. She is raising her daughter, Chloe alone after the death of her husband - a death she feels guilty for.

To complicate her life further, Holly is doing her best to avoid possibly falling in love again with the charming veterinarian Brendan O'Neil. As Holly delves deeper into solving the murders, she finds herself being sucked into a game of cat and mouse by "The Family Man", that may lead her down a dark path too horrible to bear. One that may cost her gravely - her family, her new found love, and even her life.
"The Family Man" is indeed a pretty sick little puppy, I can tell you that. What Holly and her partner Chad don't know is that he has a partner and that that partner has a twisted relationship with this killer! It took me awhile to catch on and when I did it about made me sick. One thing is for sure, this book keeps you hopping and in suspense. The killer's name is Gunther and he fancies himself as a Hunter, which is a little inside joke for him since his name is Gunther. Gunther became what he is today because of how he was raised by his father and because of that relationship, he turns out just like his father who beat his mother one day so bad that he killed her and then took off, leaving Gunther and his two sisters. They were separated and taken to different foster homes but when he got older he found one of them but not the youngest one.

Gunther keeps searching for the perfect family. He picks single women who have children and for a little while after he kidnaps them he pretends they are his wife and child. But something always goes wrong and he loses his temper and savagely kills the mothers behind recognition. He however, does not torture the children. He ends their lives fast and with mercy with confuses the police and Holly. As Holly and her partner Chad start to get closer to him, he decides to turn the tables on them!

Meanwhile, while trying to track down the killer, Holly finally meets a great man, Brendan who knows she is hiding a secret about her dead husband and until she tells him about it, their relationship won't go much further. Holly's dead husband was also a cop and while on a case one night, Holly had a hunch about something and decided to check it out herself. She should have called for backup but didn't and her husband & his partner happened to drive by because they had been watching the warehouse also and it turned out to be the worst mistake she could have ever made. The warehouse where the suspected drugs were all of a sudden blew up because there was a meth lab in there and it killed her husband, Jack. So, Holly carries that guilt with her because she did not follow procedure and call for backup.

Once Holly finally opens up to Brendan, they get closer and start seeing each other. Brendan has two girls from his first marriage and one is the same age as Holly's and the other girl is fifteen. Seeing all the girls together makes Holly realize that she is looking at her future family. Unfortunatey, "The Family Man" has other plans for Holly and her daughter, Chloe.

I am going to stop there because I want to leave something for you to read and don't want to spoil the rest of the story. But, if you love thrillers as much as I do, you will want to read this book. I stayed up late last night to finish it because it had gotten so interesting and I wanted to finish it. Happy Reading!

Great News! I just got a call from the author of the book and she offered to send me another book to give away! I have a stack of books to review and somehow I could not remember where this book came from and after some investigating we determined that I had won this book. So, when the author called to tell me that she asked if I would like one to give away. Of course, I said yes! You are gonna love this book! Open to the U.S. only.
