Private Selections Review

I was honored recently to be chosen to review Kroger's brand, Private Selections, on their Appetizers, Pizza and Frozen Desserts. I have bought some frozen food in the past from that brand but not any from these three choices so I was intrigued to see how good they really were. When I got my coupons, I chose to get the Pepproni and Roasted Garlic Marbled Hearth Baked Pizza, the Baked Tortilla Cup Collection and the Chocolate Dip Cream Puffs.

I have to tell you that the Pizza dough was just like I like it, thin and crispy except at the edges were it was a little thicker but not too much. My husband and I both loved the pizza as it was loaded in Garlic! There were little chunks of garlic throughout the pizza so if you don't like alot of garlic, you won't like this particular flavor, because it is really loaded! It also had a slight parmesan taste to it to really make me feel like I was eating in a real Italian restaurant. We would definitely buy this pizza again. They had several other options if you don't like garlic. There is a BBQ Chicken one and a Veggie one but I knew Mike would not go for the Veggie one so I stayed away from that. Mike is more of a meat lover kind of pizza so I steer clear of the veggie ones. Pizza entree's are around $5 and if you have a coupon it will be even less!

On another night we choose to make baked potatoes and just have the Tortilla Cups for a light dinner. There were two kinds of little quiche like cups; one was filled with spinach artichoke dip and the other was a roasted eggplant with tomatoes. The shell was made with a tortilla like crispy flour. Just so that you know, Kroger's appetizer's range anywhere from $3-$7 and that is a pretty good deal, especially if you have a coupon!
Please be sure to have them on the right temperature and for the correct time. Mike was watching ours and left them in a little too long and they were a little bit crispy but for us it turned out well because we like them like that but you might not! My favorite was the roasted eggplant with tomatoes and Mike liked the spinach & artichoke dip one the best. Good thing there were two different kinds in each box! As far as I know, I think these are your only options or at least in my store it was. There may be a different kind in your local Kroger that differs from mine.
Then lastly, we tried the Chocolate Covered Cream Puffs! I have to admit I was not expecting much on this one because I usually go for desserts that I have already tested and know they are good. It is one area where we don't skimp on and so I was eager to see how it would turn out. Again, there were several possibilities to choose from but I knew this would be the one that maybe we could all agree on. The other type of desserts either one of us liked or the other one liked but never together. This was a lateral decision and it was an excellent one for us! We halved up the cream puffs and put the rest in the freezer and let the other half unthaw at room temperature for about 20-30 minutes and then we all eagerly grabbed one and popped it into our mouths. It was totally awesome! I would have thought that a chef had made them at a fancy restaurant instead of it being Kroger's brand. So, if it can pass my family's tough standards, it should be well received in yours! Oh, and remember that they are between $3-$7 and if you clipped a coupon from Kroger it will cost even less.

Overall our experience was fantastic and I now know that I can continue to get Private Selection's products and that they will hold up to our standard of what food should taste like. I hope that you give at least one of these a try and see what you and your family think about Kroger's brand of food items. I love that they offer coupons to redeem or you can start an account with Shortcuts and get them downloaded onto your Kroger card so that you don't have to carry coupons everywhere you go! Now, that I know the food is good I will start using some of my Private Selection coupons to save a little money here and there.
