Larabar Review & Giveaway **Closed**

I was very fortunate to be able to review another great company called Larabar and they are a gluten free/vegan free company that has made some really great bars out of yummy sounding names like the (4) that I got to review:

1. Coconut Cream Pie
2. Chocolate Chip Brownie
3. Pecan Pie
4. Carrot Cake

I tried the Coconut Cream Pie first because you don't run across that name much anymore. It used to be my favorite pie that my mother made quite frequently and I sure do miss them! So, when I had to choose which 4 flavors I thought I might like to try, I could not pass up Coconut Cream Pie.

LÄRABAR is a delicious blend of unsweetened fruits, nuts and spices. Made from whole food, each flavor contains no more than nine ingredients. Pure and simple, just as nature intended. And I have to say that I think the Coconut Cream Pie was my personal favorite. I have to tell you I really was sad to see the last of it go.

I stretched it out to 3-4 days by just taking a little pinch here and there. It has a mix of unsweetened coconut, cashews and almonds provides 6 grams of fiber and a yummy alternative to the original, more decadent delight.

Then I went on to try the Pecan Pie, which wasn't as good as the Coconut Cream Pie but it was a pretty close second. This one had the nutty flavors of pecans but something was a little off about this bar because it did not really taste like pecans. I have given it the benefit of the doubt and it wasn't really too bad. If your goal is to reach a certain level, then this might work really good for you.

I guess because I am a Southerner and we can tell if pecan pie is good or not since we cook alot of it down here. I never really could figure out what it was I was missing in their bar but it was still good enough if I was starving I would eat it (figured it out, it was probably all that brown sugar!) The Pecan Pie is made up of only 3 ingredients and it also contains a 1/2 serving of fruit.

Next up was the Chocolate Chip Brownie and I was curious to see how it would taste because I love brownies and have probably eaten my weight in brownies over the years. Larabar's Chocolate Chip Brownie was another one I had no trouble getting used to as it did bear a good enough resemblance to a brownie especially since it was made with Fair Trade Certified™ chocolate chips and cocoa, dates, almonds, walnuts and only has 5 grams of fiber. So, now, I have two very good favorites! If you are a brownie lover then you will like this one also.

Lastly, I tried the Carrot Cake and again was surprised at how much it did resemble Carrot Cake. This bar provides 25% of the recommended daily value of Vitamin A and 5 grams of fiber. What makes it so great? Carrots, dates, almonds, walnuts, raisins, pineapple and coconut.

I can tell you that it was packed full of nuts and I could taste the coconut also. I am something of an expert on Carrot Cake and this one is pretty darn close. Just keep in mind that all of these LÄRABAR products are free of colorings, additives, and preservatives.

They have so many to choose from it will make your head spin but here are a few:

1. Apple Pie
2. Banana Bread
3. Blueberry Muffin
4. Key Lime Pie
5. Cashew Cookie
6. Cherry Pie

There is an extensive list so if you would like to see the other flavors go to this page and check them all out. On this particular page I found out about those who need special diets.

It started out as just a hike, no different than countless others I've taken into the beautiful Rocky Mountains of Colorado. Little did I know I was about to come up with a mountain of an idea: Combine wholesome ingredients such as fruits and nuts to create a food product that's tasty, healthy and convenient.

In that instant, in May 2000, LÄRABAR was born. After scouring the aisles of grocery stores and noting popular flavors of ice cream and cookies, I delved into my own product development. Natural foods, I believed, should be fun and enjoyable as well as good for you. With friends and family serving as focus groups, I tinkered with recipes until a consensus on yummi-ness was reached.

The next step was to launch a company to market what would initially be five delicious LÄRABAR flavors: Cherry Pie, Apple Pie, Cashew Cookie, Banana Cookie, and Chocolate Coconut Chew. I also assembled a sophisticated manufacturing arm...what amounted to be a Cuisinart and a rolling pin. The first batch of bars I produced for retail had to be sealed by hand — all 500 of them!

I love LaraBars. My favorites are the Cherry Pie (nice tart cherry bite) and Chocolate Coconut. These are great snacks when you need a carb boost without adding refined sugar- but there is plenty of sugar from the dates.

If you haven't tried these, they cost about the same as a candy bar and are so much better tasting and better for you.
